The Public Entity wishes to notify the general public that on April 9th and 10th and April 15th and 16th, cat traps will be placed in the St John’s area.
Cats form a threat to the survival of indigenous animal species on Saba, like the red-billed tropic bird, anoles and other small wildlife. As feral cats reproduce fast, cat populations form an increasing threat to the wildlife on the island if no measures are taken. The Public Entity aims to reduce the predation pressure from cats on indigenous wildlife by targeted removal around bird nesting sites and hotspots with high numbers of feral cats.
Box traps will be placed in the St John’s area on April 9th and 10th (Wednesday and Thursday) and the week after on April 15th and 16th (Tuesday and Wednesday). Residents of St Johns are asked to keep their domestic cats indoors during these days.
The Public Entity will check all captured cats for microchips to make sure that no domestic cats are mistakenly removed from the area. Feral kittens that are captured will be rehomed with assistance of the SFPCA.
For inquiries or concerns, do not hesitate to contact the Public Entity at info@sabagov.nl.
Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
