If you are looking to get married on Saba, please review the requirements and bring all documentation to the Census Office to start the process.

Marriage Requirements for Both Parties:

  • Birth Certificate: Provide a birth certificate for each party.
  • Declaration of Marital Status: Submit a declaration of marital status.
  • Death Certificate: If widowed, provide a death certificate.
  • Divorce Certificate/Decree or Final Judgment: If divorced, provide the relevant documentation.
  • Address: Provide your current address.
  • Passport Copies: Submit copies of your passports.
  • Witnesses' Passport Copies: Provide passport copies of the witnesses.

Fees:

  • Will be discussed during consultation.

Important Notes:

  • Document Validity: Documents for non-residents should not be older than six (6) months.
  • Translation: Original documents need to be translated into Dutch or English, if applicable.
  • Legalization: Depending on the country of origin, the above-requested documents may require legalization. Some countries also require an Apostille Stamp. In several countries, the documents must be authenticated first by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of that country and then legalized by the Dutch Consulate.

Marriage Locations & Witnesses:

  • Location: Marriages on Saba take place at the Court Room or an approved location of your choice.
  • Witnesses:
    • You will need a minimum of two and a maximum of four witnesses for marriages performed in the Court Room.
    • At any other location, the number of witnesses required is six.

Once all documents have been submitted and payment made, the Civil Registrar will begin registering the couple's intention to be married. Please contact the Census Office for all additional information before planning your marriage at census@sabagov.nl.
