Hurricane Preparation: Shelter Information
In the event of a hurricane, here is information about available storm shelters:
Where are the shelters located?
- The Bottom: Sunny Valley Youth Center
- Windward Side: Child Focus Foundation
Shelters will open in the event of a hurricane category 3 or higher and is used only for short and temporary stays.
Who can use the shelter? The shelters are used only as a last resort for those in immediate need who cannot stay in their own homes or with friends and family members.
Important Reminder: Please evaluate all your options before choosing the shelter, as space is limited.
Are emergency supplies available? You are advised to have your own emergency preparations in order and keep enough food and supplies at home to last at least 10 days during hurricane season.
Those seeking shelter should preferably bring:
- Their own food, water, and cutlery
- Hygiene products, a towel, extra clothes
- ID card and other valuable documents
- Medication and prescriptions
- Charged cellphone
- Flashlight with extra batteries
- For children: baby food, diapers, etc.
Please Note:
- Pets, alcohol, and tobacco products are not allowed in the shelters.
