The Public Entity Saba wishes to inform the general public that intensified invasive species control measures will be implemented in the period between January 29th, 2025 and April 1st, 2025. This includes hunting of roaming livestock and non-native iguanas, as well as removal of feral cats, rats and chickens in dedicated areas.
To ensure the safety of the public, trails where hunting takes place will be closed during hunting hours. Clear signage will be posted at trail entrances/exits to indicate closures. Please ensure your safety by adhering to these closures.
The removal of feral cats and rats will be targeted in areas surrounding red-billed tropic birds nesting sites. Removal of chickens will be targeted in areas where they cause erosion or nuisance, such as in the landfill area (Waste Facility in Fort Bay). The Public Entity works closely together with the Saba Conservation Foundation in these invasive species control activities.
Efficient retrieval of animals from hunting areas will receive high priority during this operation.
We kindly request that residents and visitors refrain from entering trails and zones closed on hunting days. For any inquiries or concerns, do not hesitate to contact the Public Entity at info@sabagov.nl.
Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
