The development of the Island Express was a collaborative project between the Project and Policy Bureau and the Department of Public Works and Facility Management, with a clear focus on providing a service that emphasizes affordability, accessibility, safety, energy efficiency, mobility, and community development. This public transport service is only extended to residents of Saba.
The design of the Island Express reflects Saba's natural beauty, featuring imagery of native flora such as the Wedrigo and the Black-Eyed Susan. Until bus stops are established in Saba’s four main villages, to further increase accessibility within the community, the central waiting locations will be:
• Windwardside – Small Parking Lot / Bizzy B area
• The Bottom – Saba Electric parking lot
• St. John's – On the Hill above the entrance to St John’s
• Zions Hill – Milicent Flat Bus Stop
Initially, the Island Express will operate with one driver, following a scheduled route. This public transportation schedule was developed based on data collection and feedback from both passengers and drivers. An additional route has been added on Wednesdays and Fridays. The schedule will be continuously monitored and adjusted as needed to ensure optimal service and to meet the needs of the evolving Saban community.
Looking ahead, an additional vehicle is scheduled to join the fleet in 2025, expanding the service further. For now, we encourage the entire Saban community to embrace this new mode of transportation.
