Project members from St. Eustatius and Saba discussed the progress of the Search and Rescue (SAR) project.

In 2025, the two islands will receive a Search and Rescue boat. The aviation legislation stipulates that airports must have a SAR boat at their disposal. The project, financed by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management, will deliver a high-tech Caribbean-proof and sustainable SAR boat for each island this year.

The management and maintenance will be arranged by a joint foundation for both islands. The crew will be provided from the islands themselves. The foundation also provides training for the crew in collaboration with the Koninklijke Nederlandse Redding Maatschappij (KNRM), Caribbean Dutch Coastguard and CITRO Curacao. The two boats are currently being built in Hoorn at Habbeke Shipyard.
