About Us
History of the Department
The Department of Infrastructure and Spatial Planning (ISP) was known as the "Planning Bureau" until 2022, when it was officially restructured and renamed to reflect its expanded responsibilities. Initially focused on construction projects, the department now also shapes policies and regulations in infrastructure, spatial planning, and housing. This transformation stemmed from the need for a broader approach to the island's development and sustainability.
Organizational Structure
In 2024, new roles were added to the ISP team to address growing responsibilities. The team now includes the following positions:
- Department Head
- Policy Advisor (Housing and Spatial Planning)
- Legal Advisor (Environmental and Planning Law)
- Technical Designer
- Project Assistant
- Project Manager (Construction)
- Project Manager (School Housing)
- Project Manager (Black Rocks Harbor)
These team members collaborate closely on various projects, ensuring effective planning and execution.
Collaboration with Other Departments
Given the diversity of its projects, ISP partners with nearly all public entity departments:
- Public Works & Facility Management: The maintenance and investment projects related to the island’s infrastructure and government buildings are prepared and executed in close cooperation with the Department of Public Works & Facility Management.
- Community Development & Culture: ISP collaborates with the Department of Community Development & Culture on projects related to education, affordable housing, cultural heritage and community facilities.
- Public Health & Sports: Projects related to sport’s facilities are carried out in cooperations with the Department of Public Health & Sports.
Additionally, ISP maintains strong connections with local organizations such as the Saba Heritage Center, the Saba Conservation Foundation and various ministries of the central government.
