Dengue is a viral infection spread from mosquitos to people.  The infection can range from causing no symptoms (asymptomatic) to causing a severe flu-like illness that can on occasion result in a potentially lethal complication called Severe Dengue.

Symptoms can include:

  • Rash
  • Sudden fever
  • Headache, especially behind the eyes
  • Nausea and/or vomiting
  • Sudden muscle, bone or joint pain

If you have symptoms, contact Saba Cares at 599.416.3288.  Timely confirmation of dengue is crucial for your medical care.

Protection and Prevention of Dengue

  • Community participation is the key to dengue prevention!
  • With everyone doing their part to reduce mosquito breeding grounds, and exposure to bites, transmission rates can be decreased.
  • On a weekly basis, monitor potential breeding areas outside and inside your home to reduce and eliminate mosquito breeding grounds.

For more information on what you can do check out our Mosquito Campaign Guide.

Mosquito Monday

An island-wide campaign is designed to promote community involvement in the fight against mosquitos by targeting the elimination of potential breeding grounds.  The campaign also raises awareness about the importance of protecting against mosquito bites.
